An official research trip to Kuala Keniam was done in conjunction to a research workshop activity at Travelers Home at Kuala Tahan. A total of 15 researchers from the University congregate for discussion over research publication.
During the mid-term semester break, it again gives me the opportunity to de-stress and unwind all work pressure by escaping into the green enviroment of Taman Negara.
We drove off for the high waterfall at Hutan Lipur Ulu Kanching near Rawang. Hutan Lipur Kanching, is a forest reserve which is located 21 km north of Kuala Lumpur in between Selayang and Rawang and next to the famous Templers Park.
Our outing this weekend is headed towards Bentong town in the state of Pahang, to treck up the jungle along the Chamang waterfall. From the East-West Karak Highway, take a left turn into the inner trunk road and the next right turn heading pass the Bentong Town. A big signboard will indicate a left turn towards the Chamang Waterfall. A 10-kilometer bitumen road, which meanders along the river within its basin, takes visitors to a car park in the middle of a forest reserve.
After concluding all my end of the semester academic commitments and other administrative works at the University, a quick dash away from this madhouse and escape back into the nature is big relief.
The weekend trekking leads us to the Taman Rimba Ampang, at Bukit Belacan near Sg. Ampang, is easily accessible, only 13.5km east from the Federal capital.
28 - 31 March 2008. Since our last research trip to Taman Negara in June 2007, the weather of the wet monsoon season during the second half of the year has not been very favourable for us to be back in action in the rainforest of Taman Negara for quite a while. Heavy evening rain and the threat of flooding has constantly prevented us pursuing our exploration passion.
After a long break from outing, an overdue revisit trip to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Nature Park Reserve, located 16 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur was made by two exhausted and shaggy trackers.
This is a follow-up research trip to the Penang National Park, as a part of the earlier visit done in December 2007. A convoy of 4 cars packed with 11 researchers journeyed up the Northbound Highway to Penang from KL.
It comes back full cycle again. This is again that time of the year when we customary bring all the new batch of postgraduate students for outing activity to the tropical rainforest of Ulu Perdik at Batu 18, Ulu Langat, Selangor.
From the 15th till the 18th of January 2008, we flew off to Kuching, which is the capital city of Sarawak. At 125,000 square kilometers, the Malaysia's largest state that is situated on the island of Borneo, often referred to as the 'Land of the Hornbills'.
Heading south on the North-South Expressway from Kuala Lumpur, at the Port Dickson (Seremban) Interchange (Interchange 219), go down route 51 to Kuala Pilah. Ulu Bendul is located 16km down this route. It's a roughly one hour and 20 minutes drive from the Negeri Sembilan state capital, Seremban.
A planned official business trip was cancelled at the last minute, turning it into a memorable, a much needed, end of the year family holiday retreat to the beautiful Langkawi Island, north of the mainland peninsular.
Further in through the country road by the Zoo Negara in Hulu Klang, a 5km drive along an extremely tight, single-lane winding country road will lead you to an ideallic camping site at Hulu Kemensah.
The Penang National Park is located at the North East corner of Penang and fronts the Straits of Malacca. It is about 30km from Georgetown which is located approximately 400km north from Kuala Lumpur.
The dark clouds in the sky this morning is a strong indicator of the coming of a heavy monsoon rain that will eventually spoil our weekend outing. So, to be save, we were contented with a quick trip to the nearest trekking spot at Bukit Gasing this time.
After such a long break from trekking, we decided to take a long drive 70km northwest of Kuala Lumpur to the Kuala Selangor Nature Park. By the time we reached our destination, it was already almost noon, and the sun directly right up above our head.
With October being right smack in the middle of the Ramadhan fasting month for all Muslims, the Naturetracker team turned to preparing for an Art Exhibition, showcasing some of our image collections to-date, instead of going for our usual weekend jungle tracking.
Sungai Klah Hot Springs Park is an ideal place to relax and de-stress. The surroundings are tranquil, the gardens are immaculate and the water is beautiful.
A total of eighty-one students and academic staffs from the Graphic Department of FSSR, UiTM, plus several PhD researchers was involved in a 4 days research trip to the Island of Pulau Langkawi, off the state of Kedah in conjunction with their class project assignment for the semester.
Over the years, it has become customary for every semester's new student intake, the Faculty of Art and Design, UiTM will organise activity for the fresh first semester Undergraduate students to participate in "Nature Walk' initiative as part of their orientation activity.
The weekend trekking decision ended up with taking a 45 minutes flight from KL, traveling up north of the Peninsular of Malaysia to the Island of Pulau Langkawi, off the state of Kedah. The visit was in conjunction with another official trip there, but yours truly and two other hardcore naturetracker did manage to sneak in some time to tour the island.
It is again that second time of the year when we customary bring all the new batch of postgraduate students for outing activity. An ideal occassion for them to get to know each other, none other than during a walkabout in the rainforest of Ulu Perdik in Ulu Langat.
After several week of absence from the visiting the jungle, several of us nature trackers decided to go for a short trip to the Elephant Scantuary at Kuala Gandah, near Lanchang in Pahang about 30 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur.
